In the Auto Parts Shop

By Bob Dvorak

Bill walked into Sam’s Auto Parts and headed for the front desk. Hoisting a bag of burgers and fries onto the counter he waited for Sam to look up.

Sam sat at a desk ten feet back, perusing a ledger. “5-6-7-8.” OK, that’s eight Rochesters. Plus the four Holleys on the shelf, a half-dozen Carters still in the box, and a Zenith collecting dust in repair.

Bill finally called over, “Hey, Sam, you want lunch?” Fred looked over from the wiper display and said, “Don’t bother Sam with that stuff. He’s counting carbs.”
